We have a sharepoint server (WSS 3.0) that we are looking to script an extraction on a portion of the site.

The request is that they have a site that that can have multiple sub-folders. The file will then be extracted to a single folder.

I have done some digging and have found the following example that would extract files to a single folder: (they are a bit crude but looks like they will work)

XCOPY "\sharepointsvr\Dept\Library\".DOC C:\TMP /S /Y XCOPY "\sharepointsvr\Dept\Library\".DOCX C:\TMP /S /Y or
for /R "\sharepointsvr\Dept\Library\" %i IN (*.DOC) DO xcopy %i C:\TMP /M

I am looking at running this as a scheduled tasks form the server using a command script. The above script would dump the files and subfolders into a single (and that is what they would prefer)

My questions are the following

Is there a way to tell if a files is checked out from a command prompt?
If this can be scripted can I work this into the ablove scripts to only pull out the files that are are 'checked in' to Sharepoint?

If not is there a better way to achieve this file export for 'checked in files'?

thanks for any thoughts..

And their is no real replacment feature unless you count Windows 7 ability to automatically find the hardware you have/need and enable/disable it. I agree that it's unfortunate that hardware profiles are gone but I also understand Microsoft wanting to make the system as automated as possible.

For me I use my Windows 7 RC in a doc at work and out of it at home. It switches between the two seemlessly. By default when I'm at home the NIC is turned off. But when I plug in an ethernet cable in, it automatically enables the NIC. It's worked great and I haven't had a need for hardware profiles. Vista worked similarly (they took out hardware profiles in Vista) but I had to manually enable the NIC."

The same goes for the Vista books.

I was wondering the same thing earlier. Is it any wonder that one cannot keep up with writing the manuals at this pace?

There are 15 replies, with the last one on 03/05/2010 at 6:52:29 PM by wobble_wobble
Quote:
Depending on how big your network is and how long your DHCP lease is, this can be problematic.

I suggest a few things.

My first suggestion, would be a batch file to stop and start the DHCP server every few hours. I haven't tested this on a continuous basis, but the following will get the DHCP server to stop and start and not require authourisation

1st batch file, I called it dhcpstop.bat

dhcpstop.bat
sc \\servername stop DHCPServer
wait.bat 20

2nd batch file I called wait.bat

wait.bat
@ping 127.0.0.1 -n 2 -w 1000 >nul
@ping 127.0.0.1 -n %1! -w 1000> nul
sc \\servername start DHCPServer

I then save both to the same location and call the dhcpstop.bat from a scheduled task.
I'm sure others can write neater code but it does what I need. The first stops the DHCP Service, then calls the wait. The 20 is the delay and yes it calls for dhcp to start 20 times.
If the service is started nothing will happen, if its stopped it will attempt to start.

Try the DHCPloc program as mentioned, but you need to run it continuously otherwise you won't notice, a server or something the admins look at will be necessary.

Turn down the lease time on the DHCP if necessary from the default of 8 days, but turn up the Conflict Detection Attempts to make sure that IP's aren't allocated. You will need to change default Ageing and Scavenging as well to remove the older leases, by default they are set to approx 14 days before it removes stuff. If you are on 2k3 AD, then change DNS to only accept Secure Updates.

The following is dependent on if you have WAPs that have Production access. If you have WAP's on the production environment, then I'd would highly suggest you get two sets, one private for production and lock that down to MAC address access as well as changing passwords or RRAS access and one public on the worst connection you can give it.
Help to lock down wireless;
http://articles.techrepublic.com.com/5100-10878_11-6148579.html
http://blogs.zdnet.com/Ou/?p=587

Whats happening to you, sounds a lot like how someone would attempt to gain info from a network.

Hard to believe I'm not exceeding the "free service" limit of Spamhaus.

I'm dropping all connections that produce the following return codes from Spamhaus: 127.0.0.2, 127.0.0.4, 127.0.0.5, 127.0.0.10, 127.0.0.11.

Their service is great. Our amount of spam dropped dramatically after I started using their block list. I archive messages blocked by IMF and the number of emails in the archive folder dropped to only about 1% of what was being blocked before configuring the block list service.

And block list service IP lookups use almost no bandwidth, much less than a standard DNS query.

There are 5 replies, with the last one on 03/02/2010 at 2:29:26 PM by yoda
Quote:
Victory @Last!!

This glitch is now history tanx to a ton of patience and the use of Mark R's excellent ProcMonitor and ProcExplorer tools. As I said at the top of this thread, there were a number of applications that would just not run in my Vista admin account. They would run fine when runas administrator or as an ordinary user, but they ABEND, throwing an access denied exception when run without elevation. Initially, I persisted with using WinDbg as a post-mortem debugger, but that was getting me nowhere fast. I gave up on that route and began using ProcMonitor to watch what was happening when I fired up Adobe Acrobat, one of the affected programs. Much tinkering with the filters resulted in finally identifying the file and registry ops that where triggering the access denied issue. Turns out that for whatever reason the app was attempting to write into APPDATA directory of the SYSTEM profile, something that is obviously verboten. The question now evolved into why wasn't the admin profile being used as it should be. I validated a number of enviornment settings, registry keys and file system junction points and confirmed that they were spot on. A quick check of the permissions for all the accounts listed in the HKEY_USERS branch of the registry revealed that the admin account key did not have ANY permissions set. I quickly rectified that and rebooted. Voila, everything started working as it should.

Post-mortem on this suggests that the lack of correct permissions on the HKEY_USERS admin profile key cause the apps to have an access failure, after which they default to using the system profile.

---what a relief

Basically, I could not figure out a way to attach a document, and so I am going to point those of you who are interested to a link, which will give you the document.

I must emphasize that it was a document written for my account and team. I have gone through it and tried to make it more generic, but you must be careful when you go through the process to think it through and make sure that each step is appropriate for your environment. In short, just be careful.

The link is going to go to my website. I will do my best to keep it in place, though I plan on doing some redesigning of my website in the not-too-distant future. If I slip up and the link below is broken, reply to this post, and it will remind me to put the link back into place.

Anyway, I hope this helps some one. For those of you whom I've already emailed a copy, you might find this new one a little better. Also, I was going to make it a PDF, but then I thought I'd leave it as a Word document, as it might be easier for you to modify it for your own needs.

Again, I apologize to Moe for hi-jacking his thread. [:I]

UPDATE 03/01/2010 - I am re-designing my website, and so I am removing the URL that used to be below that pointed to the document. If you still need a copy of the document (and I'm still getting requests as recent as just a couple of days ago), go to my website ( www.craigdayton.com ) and send me an email requesting the document. I will email it to you as promptly as possible. Thank you for understanding.

There are 3 replies, with the last one on 02/25/2010 at 2:00:38 PM by Jazzy
Quote:
You didn't mention a DAG in your fist post. :) Anyway, if you want to recover fast in case of a server failure you need a second HT/CA server too. Then again, if you don't expect an fully automated failover you could easily deploy the three roles on both servers. This saves you the extra management and complexity of 2 additional servers, licences for Windows and Exchange and some network challenges with NLB. Keep it simple, would be my advice.

Regarding SSD, don't expect too much out of them. Currently Exchange is optimized for long sequential reads which enables you to run the databases on cheap disks. There's really no point in deploying expensive SSD disks for Exchange.

Another thing about HA, think about the scenarios you want to protect yourself against. A BSOD on the only HT/CA server means that the clients can't access their mailbox, even if you had 20 Hyper-V servers.

I think we should look at that.

Also what is going on in the CRMAppPool. Are there timeouts in threads there?
The CRM Async service is supposed to allow the threads to process independantly of each other.

Let's see what's going on in the system because it does seem like the metadata is not reading the index.

Just for the record Microsoft has nothing on Cisco when it comes to acronyms.

1. Ask your Cisco rep. if they have an Cisco Tech Days covering Unified Communications (UC) deployments
2. http://www.cisco.com/en/US/docs/voice_ip_comm/uc_system/unified/communications/system/ucstart.htm. It's not the easiest resource to follow but you should eventually find what your looking for.
3. The CCNA Voice Exam prep book, I don't intend to take the exam but it was a good reference.

My network / telecom team member used a VOIP for Dummies book, she does have a Cisco / Nortel background.

One pitfall, like operating systems don't go with the minimum amount of RAM needed in your routers. We did and paid for it in the end, we are now doubling the recommended RAM.

Good luck
