Does anybody have any experience with Salesforce. We are a small private not for profit business, and we are investigating moving a lot our customer and partner data to a CRM via Salesforce.
Have visited their website, which seems a bit murky.
Any thoughts.

Hi Steve,
We work solely with nonprofits providing managed IT services. We recently began working with a new client who uses Salesforce rather heavily. While I have to admit to really liking the idea of cloud-based/web-based tools (keeps things simple, no client software installation hassles, etc) my experience so far is that Salesforce is "full of it." Their slogan "the 'no-software' software company" is pretty much BS... As soon as you actually want to do something useful, such as extract data to/from excel, or mailmerge to Word, etc, you have to (you guessed it) install software to do so. Just because they are "plugins" or "activeX" controls does not make them "not software" - and these tools are subject to compatibility issues like any software. Some of the tools in use still aren't compatible with Office 2010, and attempts to call support get you someone in Costa Rica reading off a script. The entire environment itself is a rather byzantine maze and I am less than impressed with their consistency, follow-through, and (lack of) support.
Needless to say, I am not recommending Salesforce to any of our other clients... I am going to look into Microsoft's CRM when I get the chance and see if some combination of sharepoint & crm can do the job better... |

Wes -
Thanks for your prompt response. I'm with you, I like the cloud concept; but putting that much data, security, and service into to the cloud - well, it gives me pause. So we're going to process this one very carefully.
Thanks, |

We have a customer went from ACT to Sales Force and back to ACT within 2 years. Having great fun pulling salesforce.com addon/ addins/ clingon stuff.
Not sure why they are leaving salesforce but ACT is no better.

Steve,
only in the broadest term of the word...
The first year I was in VB for the conference, little old innocent me had never heard of Hooters before. On a late and happy trip back from Marks house we saw one, did quite an impressive u turn and ended up in the good charming care of those ladies.
Been taking a picture of them every year since. |

Guys, this is my field.
Try the CRMonline from Microsoft for a month free.
In the new version coming out for 2011 you will have a lot more customization. It has a good deal of customization now.
For almost two years now it has a Outlook Plug in that's easy to use and a data migration manager.
I don't like the way quotes work now because complicated quotes work with Word. More to come but just check it out.

| Curt, this CRM stuff is all pretty new for me. Is there feature parity with SF and MS CRM? What is the pricing model like? Do they do nonprofit pricing? Is CRM something you can deploy in-house? |

Will probably wait for the new beta then try it out... |
