I don't understand how people can make yet another linux distro and then call it their own operating system.

Doesn't making your own operating system mean literally making your own design, own code, etc. and not just copying someone else's work?

At this late date , it's all the same.

We must interact with the machine. With all it's complexity.

In truth, I can't see an OS being created and given away for nothing that has all the functions of Windows.

If they did it would be like the ATM machines. Free for now. But we charge after all the tellers are gone.
